This tale of two towns takes you from a bustling cruise terminal port to a simple fishing village. The journey starts at Puerto Quetzal and ends at Puerto Iztapa with its charming coconut, almond and La Ceiba trees (the Ceiba tree is the national tree of Guatemala) right in the middle of the Civic Center.

 

Stop at the kindergarten school for an open forum with the children.  At the pier, local fishermen share how they weave their Atarrayas (fishing nets) and get ready the day’s catch sale.

 

Continuing inland to the village of Buena Vista, you’ll enjoy short stops at the sugar cane fields, Shrimp Pounds and learn how they are raised.  Along the way, see the local women making tortillas to sale to the passers-by on their way home to lunch.  Finally stop at the Captain’s restaurant for a natural fruit drink or beer (for purchase).
